About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant receives, processes, and prepares clinical specimens for the Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology, and Coagulation departments. The role includes accessioning cases for internal and external (B2B) clients, following specimen-processing procedures and reference-laboratory shipping requirements, and documenting quality-control, inventory, and credentialing information for the area.

Requirements

High school graduate.
Bilingual.
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, accountability, and reliability, prioritizing patient care and treating staff with courtesy and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field.
Laboratory training or experience.

Responsibilities

Receive, accession, and label clinical specimens in the Laboratory Information System (SAIL).
Verify specimen acceptability, including volume, tube type, and hemolysis.
Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories according to their temperature-control and handling requirements.
Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
Perform routine preventive or corrective maintenance.
Maintain an adequately stocked inventory of laboratory supplies and request supplies as needed.
Report patient-safety issues and specimen deficiencies.
Review and maintain quality-control and maintenance logs.
Store and dispose of hazardous waste using safety procedures.
Implement standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols daily.
Wear personal protective equipment at all times.
Perform assigned duties according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards, safely and with minimal supervision.
