About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant works in the General Laboratory at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, supporting diagnostic and consultative services. The role processes samples, performs waived laboratory testing, and directs workflow while supporting quality and accreditation requirements. The caregiver works variable shifts, with schedules of 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and Cleveland Clinic policies.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

• Histology or microbiology laboratory assistant background.
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
• Previous experience in a laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Perform various laboratory procedures.
• Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens.
• Operate laboratory equipment and perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
• Perform quality assurance activities.
• Maintain adequate stock of supplies and manage the inventory, transportation, and distribution of supplies.
