About The Position

As a laboratory assistant, you will be a member of a diverse, agile team responsible for biological specimen receipt, identification verification, processing, and storage. In addition, you will perform a variety of clerical, processing, and other laboratory duties that include maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. This position is located at the Superior Drive Support Center where immediate parking is available. In addition to gaining clinical laboratory experience, you will have many opportunities for career advancement within Specimen Operations. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • All applicants must attach a cover letter and resume to their application to be considered for this position.
  • Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology/Mayo Collaborative Services (DLMP/MCS) employees that have been in their current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach an early release approval from their supervisor.
  • Internal applicants must attach their 3 most recent performance appraisals.
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and shift gears in a busy environment.
  • Conscientious of details and strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Experienced with computers, keyboarding, and telephone operations.
  • Flexibility
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license with an excellent driving record.
  • International/foreign trained applicants must provide a DETAILED equivalency evaluation from an organization listed as a member of NACES or AICE, showing US equivalent degree. The applicant is responsible for the cost associated with obtaining the equivalency evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of laboratory functions and medical terminology preferred.
  • Science background preferred.
  • 1-2 years medical experience preferred.
