About The Position

Konza Prairie Community Health Center is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Laboratory Assistant to join our clinical team. This position plays an important role in supporting quality patient care by ensuring laboratory testing processes are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will perform phlebotomy services, process and prepare specimens for testing and referral, maintain laboratory inventory, perform quality control activities, and assist with routine laboratory equipment maintenance. This position works closely with providers, nursing staff, and reference laboratories to support timely and accurate patient testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of phlebotomy experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program.
  • National phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or primary care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Receive, verify, label, and process laboratory specimens according to established protocols.
  • Match specimens to provider orders and ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Prepare, package, store, and submit specimens for referral testing in accordance with reference laboratory requirements.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory levels and maintain adequate supplies, reagents, and testing materials.
  • Conduct routine inventory reviews, including monitoring expiration dates and removing expired products.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance of laboratory equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory guidelines.
  • Complete calibration, calibration verification, and quality control procedures to ensure reliable test results.
  • Accurately document maintenance, quality control activities, corrective actions, and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate reports and maintain records as needed.
  • Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to support efficient patient care and laboratory operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
