About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking applicants for a part-time Professional Research Assistant position. This temporary role is limited to 12 months and an average of 30 hours per week. The primary purpose of this position is to assist a laboratory in the Department of Chemistry to reach project goals. Applicants must have experience in organic synthesis, particularly in the synthesis of nucleosides and nucleotides, with proficiency in NMR, IR, UV-vis, and MS. Experience in synthesizing and handling oligonucleotides of DNA and RNA, including purification, chemical synthesis, and characterization, is also required.

Requirements

  • BS degree in chemistry or related fields required.
  • 1 year of experience in working with circular dichroism and NMR of RNA.
  • Experience in organic synthesis, particularly in synthesis of nucleosides and nucleotides.
  • Proficiency in NMR, IR, UV-vis, and MS.
  • Experience in synthesizing and handling of oligonucleotides of DNA and RNA, i.e., purification, chemical synthesis, and characterization.
  • Strong and clear communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Highly organized and reliable.
  • Ability to work autonomously for the majority of project is an important aspect of the job.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and self-driven.
  • A positive, helpful, and mature personality is key to be successful in this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry of nucleic acids are assets for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Chemical synthesis, mainly in nucleic acid chemistry, and biophysical studies (using NMR and CD) of chemically modified RNA.
  • Characterization of nucleosides, nucleotides, and oligonucleotides.
  • Purification of oligonucleotides of RNA and DNA.
  • Maintenance duties that include, but are not limited to, maintaining a clean environment, troubleshooting of instrumentation, training/supervising other group members.
  • Supervise undergraduate student workers.
