About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking applicants for a part-time Professional Research Assistant position. This temporary role, limited to 12 months and an average of 30 hours per week, aims to support a laboratory in achieving its project goals. The position requires experience in organic synthesis, particularly of nucleosides and nucleotides, with proficiency in NMR, IR, UV-vis, and MS. Experience in synthesizing, handling, purifying, and characterizing oligonucleotides of DNA and RNA is also necessary.

Requirements

  • BS degree in chemistry or related fields required.
  • 1 year of experience in working with circular dichroism and NMR of RNA.
  • Proficiency in NMR, IR, UV-vis, and MS.
  • Experience in synthesizing and handling of oligonucleotides of DNA and RNA, i.e., purification, chemical synthesis, and characterization.
  • Strong and clear communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Highly organized and reliable.
  • Ability to work autonomously for the majority of project is an important aspect of the job.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry of nucleic acids are assets for the position.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment and self-driven.
  • A positive, helpful, and mature personality is key to be successful in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Chemical synthesis, mainly in nucleic acid chemistry, and biophysical studies (using NMR and CD) of chemically modified RNA.
  • Characterization of nucleosides, nucleotides, and oligonucleotides.
  • Purification of oligonucleotides of RNA and DNA.
  • Maintenance duties that include maintaining a clean environment, troubleshooting of instrumentation, training/supervising other group members.
  • Supervise undergraduate student workers.
