About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Part-Time Laboratory Assistants to join our dynamic team in Regina. The Laboratory team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by processing the whole blood collections to the final product and the distribution of these products to the customers of Canadian Blood Services. In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting in the production of blood components that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.

Requirements

Grade 12 plus one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, volunteers, donors and the general public
Ability to deal effectively other departments
Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the job
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory operations
Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment
Ability to organize work

Responsibilities

Processing blood components such as from apheresis donations
Issuing blood products to Public Health and outside agencies for Quality Control, as well as issue blood and related products to our customers such as Provincial Hospitals and other blood centres, etc.
Maintaining stock of supplies in component laboratory including fractionation products, red blood cells, and platelets
Maintenance of appropriate documentation and records related to inventory in compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions.
Performing routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality of blood products and maintaining temperature records of laboratory equipment.
