About The Position

Southcoast Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant-Phlebotomist at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts. Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Laboratory Site or designee, this role obtains and processes specimens, performs phlebotomy, enters patient and specimen information, generates reports, and maintains equipment and instrumentation. The position is 40 hours per week on a day shift, with rotating shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and weekend and holiday rotation. A $2,500 new-hire sign-on bonus is available; eligible rehires must have been terminated for more than one year.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a college-based, nationally accredited phlebotomy program or a Medical Laboratory Assistant program, or equivalent.
• Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC or equivalent) is required within two years from the date of hire.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, or qualify for and sign a statement requesting an exemption for medical or personal reasons.

Responsibilities

• Obtain correct specimens and volumes according to current procedures.
• Ensure all specimens are appropriately and accurately labeled.
• Process and deliver specimens to the correct laboratory departments.
• Enter specimen and patient information in the LIS or department logs.
• Generate accurate reports in a timely fashion and distribute them appropriately.
• Perform phlebotomy on inpatients, outreach clients, home draws, nursing homes, and at outreach locations.
• Maintain equipment and instrumentation.
