About The Position

Join Orlando Health as a Laboratory Assistant II! This role supports essential diagnostic services that directly impact patient outcomes across multiple Orlando Health facilities. The Laboratory Assistant II plays a key role in laboratory operations, including receiving, processing, labeling, and preparing specimens, registering patients and entering laboratory orders accurately, processing pathology specimens and maintaining specimen integrity, and supporting patient registration and reimbursement workflows. This role also assists with laboratory quality improvement initiatives, maintaining laboratory equipment and inventory, delivering excellent customer service, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and assisting with report distribution, filing, scheduling, and general lab operations. Phlebotomy may be performed as needed. This role supports specimen handling, reference testing, ED throughput, inpatient lab operations for ORMC, OHJOI, APH, WPH, and outpatient registration/specimen processing for LWO, OHPA, OHMG, and external client accounts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current students in Nursing, Medical Technology, Pre‑Med, or related science fields may substitute for experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Flexibility to support varying departmental needs and schedules

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of laboratory or patient care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receiving, processing, labeling, and preparing specimens
  • Registering patients and entering laboratory orders accurately
  • Demonstrating knowledge of specimen collection and handling requirements
  • Processing pathology specimens and maintaining specimen integrity
  • Supporting patient registration and reimbursement workflows
