About The Position

Under general direction, the Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician 3 will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Technician will assist in study execution; collect samples from and administers agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Will exercise judgment in the collection and processing of samples such as blood, serum, plasma, tissue and urine. Works with a variety of animal species and work assignments are relatively complex. tasks will involve both in-vivo and in-vitro procedures. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations. The successful candidate will assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area, quality control review of data, coordinating sample shipment, and acting as shift or study lead. Activities as lead may include scheduling team work assignments and acting as primary point of contact for the study director for a particular shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of related experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory or an associate’s degree and 2-4years of experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory.
  • Minimum of 3 years of animal experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment.
  • A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required.
  • Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

  • ALAT and LAT certification
  • Sit for ALAT and/or LAT within 12 months as a level 2 technician.
  • Sit for LAT and/or LATG within the first 24 months.
