Reporting to the Operations Manager, Organic Main Lab, Bureau Veritas is hiring a Laboratory Analyst to join their Organic Main Instrument Laboratory in Mississauga on a six-month contract. This position focuses primarily on laboratory instrumentation, computer-based work, and data management. The role involves preparing, analyzing, and documenting environmental samples accurately to support timely reporting for clients. A significant portion of the day will be spent loading instruments, working within laboratory software, and maintaining an efficient workflow to ensure samples are ready for next-day testing. This is a six-month contract position based in the Mississauga laboratory with a required schedule of Sunday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. to support critical laboratory operations.

Requirements

  • Hands-on laboratory experience performing sample preparation, documentation, or analytical testing within a scientific environment.
  • Comfort working with laboratory software, data entry systems, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly and understand the importance of accurate electronic documentation.
  • Attention to detail, consistently producing accurate work, following procedures carefully, and maintaining high quality standards under established timelines.
  • Dependability, ability to work well independently, and understanding the importance of maintaining consistent attendance and supporting laboratory operations during the required afternoon shift.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous learning, valuing safe laboratory practices, readily following established procedures, and motivation to expand technical knowledge through ongoing training and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sample preparation or extraction is particularly valuable.
  • Experience in an environmental laboratory or with instrumentation is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis by reviewing daily laboratory workloads, organizing priorities, preparing samples, loading laboratory instruments, and ensuring analyses are completed accurately and within required turnaround times.
  • Operate instrumentation and laboratory systems, including analytical instrumentation, LIMS, Excel, and laboratory software to manage sample information, document results, and maintain efficient laboratory workflow. This includes working within laboratory systems to support accurate analysis and reporting. Training will be provided on laboratory instrumentation where needed.
  • Maintain quality standards by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ISO 17025 requirements, and Bureau Veritas quality processes, while identifying, documenting, and communicating any sample deviations or process concerns.
  • Solve problems and support continuous improvement by monitoring workstation performance, communicating delays or technical issues, assisting with troubleshooting, and contributing ideas that improve laboratory efficiency and quality.
  • Promote a safe laboratory environment by following all Health & Safety policies, participating in required training and audits, maintaining accurate training records, and ensuring the work area remains clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory standards.
