About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Laboratory Analyst I provides analytical and technical support in the Lancaster regional laboratory for the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services. Develops general understanding of the microbiological and chemistry lab program. May be requested to assist other regional laboratories and/or the central office laboratory to meet statewide commitments.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in a related technical field.
  • OR a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience.
  • Certification in the environmental field qualifies as related experience.
  • Note: Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.
  • Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Must have valid state driver's license, and ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Able to provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials.
  • Work independently in a field environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period.
  • Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access non-traditional work environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with laboratory methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Data Management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and analyze samples for total coliform, fecal coliform, heterotrophic plate count, E. Coli bacteria, Enterococci, chemistry, etc., by methods consistent with EPA and state laboratory certification.
  • Collect samples according to Bureau of Water frequency schedule and sites.
  • Perform required laboratory quality control to ensure accurate and precise data.
  • Maintain accurate records of analytical procedures and assist with submitting required reports.
  • Enter/validate results in LIMs.
  • Successfully complete annual proficiency studies.
  • Assist with providing technical assistance to the regulated community and general public when necessary or requested.
  • Perform other duties as required, which includes, but is not limited to, attending period staff meetings and training.
  • Complete necessary administrative task, including but not limited to, SCEIS, PCAS, ePermitting.
