About The Position

Independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples.

Requirements

  • Intermediate English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry preferred, or completion of the BC Assayers certification program required
  • Minimum of 1 year laboratory work experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation or a related field preferred
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 7.5 hours per day
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 5 litre containers (10 lbs)
  • Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa

Responsibilities

  • Use Webview to track samples and make sample batch
  • Perform duties of microwave Aqua-Regia digestion, fire assay gravimetric parting and micro-balance weighing and solution preparation
  • Operate and perform maintenance on AA, ICP and/or fire assay gravimetric and microwave digestion instruments
  • Identify & correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards
  • Create written reports using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Prepare sample dilutions, instrument operating solutions and calibration standards
  • Test and evaluate calibration standards
  • Ensure all prepared and available samples are accounted for in the lab
  • Maintain and organize inventory of calibration standards, production logs and equipment records
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager
