Requirements

  • phlebotomy diploma preferred
  • excellent communication & customer service skills
  • good infection control practices

Responsibilities

  • Performing phlebotomy and pre-analytical phase of clinical laboratory practice.
  • Performing limited laboratory procedures according to CLIA guidelines for Waived lab testing, which require the limited exercise of independent judgment and interpretation.
  • Following established procedures for collection and processing biological specimens for analysis.
  • Performing assigned analytical tests or procedures that are CLIA Waived.
  • Recognizing factors that affect measurement and results and taking appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.
  • Communicating information such as test results, reference ranges and specimen requirements to appropriate staff.
  • Performing routine quality control and maintaining accurate records.
  • Attending laboratory and/or organizational meetings and in-services to allow for effective communication and training.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physiological, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to neonates, infants, toddlers, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
  • Performing additional duties deemed appropriate by the Department Director in relation with laboratory functions; such as data gathering for research, correlation studies for new methodology, education/demonstration for new employees and students interesting in this field, keeping the work environment clean, etc.
