About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) for a 26-week travel assignment in Spokane, Washington. This position is ideal for an RN with at least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience who is comfortable caring for both routine and high-risk obstetric patients in a fast-paced acute-care environment. The Labor & Delivery RN will provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery. Candidates should be confident with fetal monitoring, active labor management, inductions, augmentation, VBAC/TOLAC, antepartum care, high-risk pregnancies, and maternal emergencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience
  • Recent acute-care hospital experience
  • Strong high-risk Labor & Delivery experience
  • Experience independently caring for actively laboring patients
  • Electronic fetal monitoring experience
  • Antepartum care experience
  • Experience with induction and augmentation of labor
  • Experience caring for patients with pre-eclampsia
  • Experience managing diabetes during pregnancy
  • Experience with multiple gestations
  • Experience with VBAC/TOLAC
  • Experience recognizing and responding to maternal and fetal emergencies
  • Active Registered Nurse license meeting Washington State practice requirements
  • BLS – Basic Life Support
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
  • FHM / Fetal Heart Monitoring certification or competency as required by the facility

  • Experience working closely with NICU or neonatal teams
  • Strong understanding of obstetric emergency response and maternal-fetal assessment

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery.
  • Perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments.
  • Monitor fetal heart rate patterns, contractions, and labor progression.
  • Recognize abnormal fetal monitoring findings and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Independently manage actively laboring patients.
  • Care for patients undergoing induction and augmentation of labor.
  • Administer oxytocin and other medications according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Provide nursing care for high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Care for antepartum patients and patients with pregnancy-related complications.
  • Support and monitor patients undergoing VBAC/TOLAC.
  • Provide care for patients with pre-eclampsia and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
  • Care for obstetric patients with diabetes.
  • Manage patients with multiple gestation pregnancies.
  • Assist physicians and other providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.
  • Prepare patients for cesarean delivery when required.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to maternal and fetal emergencies.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered.
  • Provide patient and family education throughout the labor and delivery process.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic.
  • Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Follow hospital safety, infection-control, and clinical-care standards.
  • Float to appropriate units when required based on staffing and patient-care needs.
