About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) for a 26-week travel assignment in Seattle, Washington. This position requires a nurse who is comfortable working in a high-acuity, fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment and managing complex, high-risk obstetric patients. Candidates should have strong fetal monitoring skills, experience with high-risk medications, and the ability to independently manage laboring patients while responding quickly to maternal and fetal emergencies. The RN must also be willing to float to Postpartum, Antepartum, Mother/Baby, and potentially related sister facilities based on staffing and patient-care needs. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced high-risk Labor & Delivery RN who is confident managing complex obstetric patients in a fast-paced environment. You should be comfortable with high-acuity maternal care, advanced fetal monitoring, cesarean-section circulation, newborn care, and floating across maternal-child health units.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience
  • Recent experience in a high-acuity, fast-paced L&D environment
  • High-risk obstetric nursing experience
  • Strong electronic fetal monitoring skills
  • Experience independently managing actively laboring patients
  • Experience with high-risk medication administration
  • Experience circulating during cesarean deliveries
  • Experience providing immediate newborn care
  • Ability to float to Postpartum, Antepartum, and Mother/Baby units
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume environment with rapidly changing patient conditions
  • Active Registered Nurse license meeting Washington State practice requirements
  • BLS – Basic Life Support
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Recent hands-on Epic experience is required for this assignment.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with: Electronic nursing documentation, Medication administration documentation, Fetal monitoring documentation, Patient assessments, Care plans, Orders and results review, Interdisciplinary communication within the electronic health record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery.
  • Independently manage actively laboring patients in a high-acuity environment.
  • Perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments.
  • Monitor and interpret electronic fetal heart rate patterns.
  • Identify changes in maternal or fetal condition and escalate concerns promptly.
  • Manage patients undergoing induction and augmentation of labor.
  • Administer and monitor high-risk medications including: Magnesium sulfate, Insulin, Heparin.
  • Provide nursing care for high-risk pregnancies and complex obstetric conditions.
  • Assist physicians and providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.
  • Circulate during cesarean deliveries and other applicable procedures.
  • Prepare patients for operative deliveries when required.
  • Provide immediate newborn care after delivery.
  • Perform newborn assessments within scope and facility policy.
  • Administer routine newborn medications such as Vitamin K and ophthalmic prophylaxis as ordered.
  • Support safe transitions between Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Antepartum, and Mother/Baby units.
  • Provide patient and family education throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic.
  • Follow evidence-based obstetric practices and AWHONN staffing and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia providers, neonatal teams, and other nursing staff.
  • Respond appropriately to maternal and neonatal emergencies.
  • Float to other appropriate units or related facilities when required.
