About The Position

This Labor Conciliator position is located in the Downtown Springfield, IL Office in Sangamon County. The Labor Conciliator will assist the Equal Pay Act Section in the Department of Labor. The Equal Pay Act Section is responsible for assisting people to recover unpaid wages as required by the various laws enforced by the Department. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, or equivalent work experience specifically in areas of workplace standards such as: monitoring compliance with public construction, occupational safety, or other workplace protection standards; ensuring adherence to wage and hour, leave, or equal pay regulations; overseeing other statutory labor requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience interpreting, applying, or enforcing Equal Pay–related laws, including statutes such as the Equal Pay Act, Title VII pay discrimination provisions, and state level pay equity or pay transparency requirements.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in labor conciliation and/or labor mediation.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing comprehensive reports with recommendations.
  • Two (2) years of intermediate experience using Microsoft core programs including Excel, Word, SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • One (1) year of experience conducting investigations, hearings, and conferences.
  • One (1) year of experience processing and storing confidential documents.

Responsibilities

  • Independently researches, investigates, analyzes and makes determinations regarding alleged violations of Equal Pay Act by applying relevant laws, regulations, policies and/or precedents to reach conclusions.
  • Independently develops and prepares comprehensive communications, documents, and reports outlining claims, defenses, applicable standards, factual and legal analyses, findings, and recommended determinations related to Illinois Equal Pay Act matters for use at all phases of investigation and enforcement process.
  • Independently operates a laptop computer, internal and external computer applications, web-based programs, internet resources, and other technological assets to timely and professionally write, prepare, print, scan, receive, send, and record complete, accurate documents and correspondence to be used in all aspects of investigation and enforcement action.
  • Independently assists in resolving Illinois Equal Pay Act claims by scheduling and conducting individual and group conciliation, corrective action, or settlement discussions or conferences in a professional fashion, and by providing factual and expert testimony during informal or formal hearings.
  • Independently completes assigned work in timely and professional fashion.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
