About The Position

The Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME) at the Penn State University Park campus is seeking a Part-Time lab technician (16-24 hours/week) for its stable isotope IRMS facility. The role involves supporting laboratory operations, including sample preparation and instrument maintenance. The successful candidate will gain experience with EA-IRMS and GB-IRMS instrumentation and will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and safety consciousness.

Requirements

  • Experience or training in laboratory techniques, especially in basic wet chemistry
  • Coursework training or experience in geochemistry
  • M.Sc. in a technical field that includes chemistry

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sample preparation for isotope analysis
  • Some analytical experience

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning of labware
  • Weighing of samples and standards
  • Performing routine sample preparation using acidic reagents
  • Using and preparing acid solutions
  • Assisting with routine running and general maintenance of analytical instrumentation
  • Completing other lab-specific tasks as needed on a day-to-day basis
