About The Position

The Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME) at Penn State University Park campus is seeking a Part-Time lab technician (16-24 hours/week) for its stable isotope IRMS facility. The role involves supporting laboratory operations through tasks such as cleaning labware, weighing samples and standards, performing routine sample preparation using acidic reagents, preparing acid solutions, assisting with the operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, and other lab-specific duties. The successful candidate will gain experience with EA-IRMS and GB-IRMS in the LIME IRMS lab and will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and safety consciousness as part of a team. The position reports to the LIME Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Experience or training in laboratory techniques, especially in basic wet chemistry
  • Professionalism, dependability, and safety consciousness

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sample preparation for isotope analysis
  • Some analytical experience
  • Coursework training or experience in geochemistry
  • Candidates with a M.Sc. in a technical field that includes chemistry are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities
