About The Position

The Lab Technician performs laboratory testing on fluid and process samples to detect and quantify cellular and particulate targets and distinguish true signals from common interferents, including red blood cells, fungal elements, and lipids. The role is responsible for accurate sample handling, instrument operation, and complete data logging so results can be grouped and trended by sampled material, fluid tube sizing, and sample aging. Work includes receiving, labeling, and processing samples according to written procedures and chain-of-custody requirements; preparing samples and conducting testing using approved methods and instrumentation; identifying and documenting interferents and artifacts; and performing routine instrument setup, calibration or verification checks, and basic troubleshooting. The technician maintains complete and contemporaneous laboratory records, supports method improvements and investigations as assigned, and keeps the workspace organized and supplied. The role also requires logging sample identifiers and collection metadata for traceability, recording descriptors used for grouping and trend analysis, and entering results and classification details in the approved format. Work takes place in a laboratory setting and may involve PPE, biological fluids, standing, repetitive pipetting or bench work, and handling small containers and tubing components. The schedule may include time-sensitive testing based on sample collection windows and sample-aging requirements. Follow Good Documentation Practices and applicable quality-system requirements, such as GLP, as defined by the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in laboratory science, biology, chemistry, medical laboratory technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Comfort working with biological fluids and following biosafety practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to document work clearly and follow written procedures.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and file management.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience, preferably in sample handling, wet lab techniques, or analytical testing.
  • Entry-level candidates with strong laboratory coursework will be considered.
  • Experience with a laboratory information management system (LIMS) or electronic lab notebook (ELN).

Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and process fluid or process samples according to written procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Prepare samples and conduct testing to detect or quantify cellular and particulate targets using approved methods and instrumentation.
  • Identify and document potential interferents and artifacts, such as red blood cells, fungal elements, and lipids, and apply established criteria to distinguish them from true target signals.
  • Perform routine instrument setup and calibration or verification checks, troubleshoot basic issues, document out-of-spec conditions, and escalate according to procedure.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and contemporaneous laboratory records, including calculations, raw data, and observations.
  • Capture atypical findings, suggest refinements to decision criteria, and participate in investigations as assigned to support method improvements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, stock consumables, and maintain inventory levels needed for scheduled testing.
  • Log sample identifiers and collection metadata, including date and time, source, operator, volume, and deviations, to ensure traceability.
  • Record sample descriptors needed for grouping and trend analysis, including sampled material, fluid tube sizing, and sample aging information.
  • Capture results and classification details, and separately record interferent observations using standard terminology.
  • Enter data in the approved format so results can be filtered, compared, and summarized across required groupings.
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices and applicable quality-system requirements, such as GLP, as defined by the organization.
  • Follow biosafety practices when working with biological fluids.
