About The Position

The Laboratory and Field Technicians will perform QA/QC duties at either an aggregate or asphalt plant lab and / or gather samples on a construction site for testing. This role promotes safe work practices and an excellent safety culture, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and tools. The technician will participate in pre-shift safety huddles and is responsible for reporting incidents and accidents to supervisor or management. Maintaining an open line of communication with team members is crucial for team productivity, and the technician must report any potential safety hazards to management and the safety officer. If working on an aggregate site, MSHA training is required upon hire and annually, along with adherence to all MSHA regulations and guidelines. The role involves QA/QC testing of bituminous asphalt, asphalt content and gradation, maximum theoretical density of mix and specific gravity of compacted mix. Testing of aggregate materials includes sampling, absorption, LA Abrasion, specifications, un-compacted voids, sodium / magnesium loss, and crush counts. Inventory products, QC sampling, schedules, specifications, testing, gradations, and crush gravity of compacted mix are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the technician will be involved in bituminous mix design development, with a complete overview of Pennsylvania design processes for HMC and WMA as per job specifications.

  • Must be able to perform some heavy lifting and handling of objects.
  • Must be aware of environment at all times, especially when working near live traffic.
