About The Position

The Laboratory and Field Technicians will perform QA/QC duties at either an aggregate or asphalt plant lab and / or gather samples on a construction site for testing. This role involves promoting safe work practices, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment, and participating in safety huddles. The technician will be responsible for reporting incidents, accidents, and potential safety hazards, and maintaining open communication with team members. For those working on an aggregate site, MSHA training and adherence to MSHA regulations are required. The position includes QA/QC testing of bituminous asphalt (asphalt content, gradation, maximum theoretical density, specific gravity), aggregate materials (sampling, absorption, LA Abrasion, specifications, un-compacted voids, sodium/magnesium loss, crush counts), and inventory management. A key responsibility is bituminous mix design development, including a complete overview of Pennsylvania design processes for HMC and WMA as per job specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform QA/QC duties at an aggregate or asphalt plant lab.
  • Gather samples on a construction site for testing.
  • Promote safe work practices and an excellent safety culture.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of all equipment and tools.
  • Participate in pre-shift safety huddles.
  • Report incidents and accidents to supervisor or management.
  • Maintain open communication with team members to promote team productivity.
  • Report potential safety hazards to management and safety officer.
  • Complete MSHA training upon hire and annually, and adhere to all MSHA regulations and guidelines (if working on an aggregate site).
  • Perform QA/QC testing of bituminous asphalt, including asphalt content and gradation, maximum theoretical density of mix and specific gravity of compacted mix.
  • Perform testing of aggregate materials, including sampling, absorption, LA Abrasion, specifications, un-compacted voids, sodium / magnesium loss, and crush counts.
  • Manage inventory products, QC sampling, schedules, specifications, testing, gradations, and crush gravity of compacted mix efficiently.
  • Develop bituminous mix designs, including a complete overview of Pennsylvania design processes for HMC and WMA as per job specifications.
