The Lab Technician works in the laboratory area and may perform duties across five roles: Analytical Systems Operator, Data Entry, Solution and Media Preparation, Microbial Analysis Operator, and Titrations Specialist. Although these tasks may not all be performed daily, workers must be able to perform each role to support coverage during absences and for training purposes. The position involves setting up and operating analytical equipment manually or automatically, responding to equipment problems, and making appropriate adjustments using judgment and experience. Technicians perform calculations, communicate clearly with coworkers in a sometimes noisy environment, learn and retain new skills as equipment is upgraded, and work with chemicals and scientific equipment. The role also requires accurate pipetting, equipment calibration, compliance with workplace and food safety practices, and participation in the Health and Safety, GMP/HACCP, and ISO 14001 programs. Technicians inspect equipment before use, coordinate daily assignments with their supervisor, assist with paperwork, report accidents and unsafe or noncompliant conditions, maintain a clean and safe workstation, and perform other duties as assigned. The work may involve extended periods in high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, as well as office tasks on a computer.
