About The Position

This position works directly with patients in the lab at medical offices and is responsible for identifying the best method of retrieving specimens for our patients, preparing specimens for testing, and performing screening procedures in accordance with ACMG’s procedures.

Requirements

  • Requires the use of personal vehicle for local travel (subject to mileage reimbursement).
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and vehicle insurance required.
  • Current (BLS) Basic Life Support Certification or willingness to be certified within 90 days of hire required.
  • Familiarity with the Healthcare industry.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent at direct patient care, monitoring conditions and responding appropriately to needs.
  • Excellent motor skills and the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Excellent at recognizing the signs and symptoms of trauma in patients, families, and staff; and actively avoid re-traumatization.
  • Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment in laboratories.
  • Able to follow instructions and strictly follow procedures.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school in Phlebotomy preferred.
  • Experience successfully drawing blood from patients with minimal or no complications preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records with a high level of computer comprehension preferred.
  • Professional certification in phlebotomy from a recognized program, preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide venipunctures, protein/INR and administers all vaccines.
  • Provides exceptional patient care and scheduling services.
  • Consistently applying phlebotomy skills, with accuracy, to a diverse patient population.
  • Utilizes proper lab procedures by coordinating the collection of all lab specimens.
  • Expands knowledge and experience of EHR and computer skills.
  • Travel to each clinic for that days needed blood draws.
  • Collects, prepares and stores specimens.
  • Processes post-vasectomy samples and pathology as needed.
  • Ensures optimum integrity, quantity and type of test samples.
  • Completes standardized test procedures to ensure consistency, reliability and accuracy of results.
  • Uses automated equipment and computerized lab instruments to perform testing.
  • Maintain Laboratory Equipment to manufacture standards.
  • Maintains biohazard bins and collection bi weekly.
  • Prepares patients before drawing blood.
  • Explains procedures to patients and answers any questions about the process.
  • Follows all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain infection control standards in work areas.
  • Ensures all appropriate medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes are prepared for patient testing.
  • Verifies patient information using 2 identifiers and labeling all samples properly.
  • Accurately updates patient information in the electronic health record and the Patient immunizations record. Updates and checks state immunization records to confirm accuracy as needed.
  • Inputs all vaccines for new patients and update immunization record.
  • Provides assurance to patients during testing to create a positive patient experience.
  • Works with supervising Clinicians and follows their directions.
  • Keeps accurate records of test results and order tracking.
  • Prepares lab reagents and standard solutions for tests.
  • Prepares weekly order of lab supplies.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Respectfully takes direction from leadership.
  • Meets all required training including those listed in Relias Learning Module System (LMS).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
