About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic at Hillcrest Hospital, a Magnet Hospital recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The role is part of the Robert J. Tomsich Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute, which provides pathology and laboratory services for Cleveland Clinic patients and external clients. The institute processes more than 20 million tests annually and employs approximately 1,400 caregivers.

The Lab Technician II receives, processes, tracks, and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis; investigates specimen issues; and maintains related documentation and data. The position is based at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. The posting lists variable shifts and schedules of 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.–9:00 p.m.; the job details also describe a schedule of 2:30 p.m.–11:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of laboratory experience.
• Ability to perform specimen-handling techniques and take measurements.
• Ability to work in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the department and hospital system.
• Ability to handle and transport biohazardous materials and potential carcinogens.
• Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.
• Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in science; this may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Receive and accession laboratory specimens into the LIS.
• Retrieve, sort, track, and deliver specimens.
• Perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve specimen issues or problems.
• Verify accurate documentation related to specimen processing.
• Maintain patient, specimen, and tracking data using laboratory computer systems, tracking tools, and software or devices.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and accept or reject specimens.
• Perform manual processing, including centrifuging, aliquoting, and routine maintenance.
