About The Position

Northside Hospital is seeking a Lab Technical Assistant for specimen processing. The position handles laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged to inpatient, outpatient, and institutional accounts. It performs specimen collection procedures for inpatients and outpatients, as well as non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or post-secondary education.
• One of the following: clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program; at least a two-year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty; two years of experience in specimen collection, specimen processing, and specimen requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare delivery system; clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab as part of education-related clinical rotations; or a valid, verifiable phlebotomy certification.
• All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
• Sufficient feeling in the fingers and visual ability to locate patients' blood vessels.
• Effective communication skills and good written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged to inpatient, outpatient, and institutional accounts.
• Perform specimen collection procedures for inpatients and outpatients.
• Process, prepare, and distribute patient specimens using non-technical procedures.
