About The Position

The Lab Tech follows laboratory procedures for pre-analytic and analytic work, including specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of test examinations. The role conducts routine and specialized diagnostic testing for designated laboratory sections, using standard or specialized techniques and laboratory equipment and instrumentation. The Lab Tech reports test results and applies technical skills and knowledge to support patient care, providing timely and accurate results.

The position also maintains records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. The Lab Tech adheres to laboratory safety and quality-control policies and documents quality-control activities, instrument or procedural calibrations, maintenance, and corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Requirements

• BS/BA in Medical Technology or Science required.
• NYSED license required.
• Some experience using computers for data entry.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred; this may include completion of an ASCP education program.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory safety and quality-control policies.
• Document quality-control activities, instrument and/or procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
• Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Conduct routine and specialized diagnostic testing for designated laboratory sections.
• Use standard and/or specialized techniques, equipment, and instrumentation to complete testing.
• Report test results.
• Apply technical skills and knowledge to facilitate patient care.
• Provide timely and accurate results.
