About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be able to work in both a team environment as well as individually. This role involves working with diverse patient populations, including children and seniors in a variety of settings. All duties will be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards with direct reporting to the Laboratory Manager. All Laboratory Personnel will comply with all criteria mandated by the appropriate accrediting and licensing agencies.

Requirements

  • Associates in Applied Laboratory Science or Bachelors of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or Completion of 50-week Military Training Course.
  • Registered MLT/MT with appropriate credentials from ASCP, AMT, AABB or evidence of equivalent education, experience and proficiency.
  • Ability to operate and interpret results from the available laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ability to relate medical knowledge to test situations.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, medical staff, peers and all customers.
  • Must be able to assess patients throughout all stages of life from newborn to 105+ years of age regarding physical and psychological needs and limitations.
  • Be able to read, interpret and adhere to the laboratory’s established policies and procedures concerning all areas of the laboratory.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 12 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes hand/eye coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to disease-carrying specimens, hazardous chemicals, electromechanical hazards, stressful workloads, deadlines to meet and interruptions to the routine.
  • Requires good manual dexterity and visual acuity (color-blindness must be noted).
  • Must have good mobility in order to move about equipment and to be able to lift and move moderate weights.
  • Must be able to maintain concentration.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years in CLIA certified laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures in one or more laboratory sections.
  • Maintain records of performance, patient results and quality control per department protocol.
  • Maintain equipment, record preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
  • Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
  • Participate in the collection of specimens (Phlebotomy) for applicable testing.
  • Assist with laboratory training programs as required.
  • Participate in annual departmental and facility competency testing.
  • Support the Hospital’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively by interacting positively with patients, visitors, physicians and employees.
  • Participate in in-service education programs, departmental meetings as well as willingness to perform other essential duties as assigned.
