About The Position

The Lab Tech in Anatomic Pathology is responsible for performing all necessary procedures related to the accessioning and technical preparation of pathology and cytology specimens. This role requires a high degree of technical expertise in specimen handling to ensure diagnostic accuracy. The individual will prioritize workflow, utilize the laboratory computer system and equipment, and perform registration for outreach specimens, including insurance entry and verification. They will also be responsible for the proper handling, accessioning, and billing of specimens, assist with basic Histology procedures, maintain cleanliness and stock in work areas, and distribute slides and paperwork.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years college course work completed (40-60 credit hours) with emphasis in a science curriculum or equivalent with 12 hours Science credits preferred.
  • One year experience working in Cytology Preparation and/or Histology Processing preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates of Science, Applied Science (or similar) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all necessary procedures pertaining to accessioning and technical preparation of all pathology and cytology specimens.
  • Handle specimens with a high degree of technical expertise to ensure accuracy of diagnoses.
  • Prioritize workflow within the department effectively and efficiently.
  • Use the laboratory computer system and equipment.
  • Pick up pathology specimens from various locations throughout the hospital and campus.
  • Perform full registration for outreach specimens with orders for Surg Path, Cytology and Molecular pathology procedures, including insurance entry and verification.
  • Responsible for proper handling, accessioning, and billing of all pathology specimens through entering data into the LIS computer application.
  • Assist with basic or designated Histology procedures.
  • Clean and stock all work areas.
  • Distribute slides and paperwork to cytotechnologists or pathologists as needed.
