About The Position

The Lab Tech Assistant supports laboratory operations at Northside Hospital by handling laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts. The role also performs specimen collection procedures and non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or post-secondary education.
• Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program; or a two-year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty; or two years of experience in specimen collection, specimen processing, and specimen requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare delivery system; or clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab as part of the clinical rotations required for high school- or college-level education; or a valid, verifiable phlebotomy certification.
• Must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening test.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
• Sufficient feeling in the fingers and visual ability to locate patients' blood vessels.
• Effective communication skills, including good written and oral communication skills.
