About The Position

Keysight is seeking a Lab Support Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and infrastructure needs of R&D engineering laboratories. The goal of the role is to ensure that the R&D laboratory environments and equipment remain operational, reliable, and available for R&D development and testing activities. This role will work with R&D teams, IT, hardware department, and other internal and external organizations to design, implement, monitor and maintain lab resources pertaining to lab organization and layout, power distribution, HVAC system, network access and remote system control.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has hands-on experience supporting computer networking equipment and laboratory environments in an R&D organization, along with fundamental knowledge of IT infrastructure and computer networking.
  • The position requires strong troubleshooting, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • The position is also required to be on site for every weekday, except national and Keysight holidays.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and highly collaborative team player with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills,
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting engineering laboratories, computer/networking equipment, or IT infrastructure, preferably within an R&D or engineering organization.
  • Fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, LAN/WAN technologies, IP addressing, VLANs, routing, switching, and common network troubleshooting techniques.
  • Fundamental knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, computers, operating systems, network connectivity, and laboratory computing environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, connectivity, and infrastructure issues and coordinating resolution with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Experience working with IT, hardware department, and engineering organizations to coordinate infrastructure and equipment support.
  • Experience with equipment installation, rack-and-stack activities, cabling, equipment moves, and laboratory infrastructure changes.
  • Strong ability to work independently, prioritize multiple support requests, and manage tasks in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, including the ability to maintain equipment inventories, lab documentation, and support records via the Jira tool.

Nice To Haves

  • CCIE certification is preferred but not required. Other relevant networking certifications or equivalent hands-on networking experience are also valued.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support the installation, relocation, configuration, connectivity, and deployment of networking and computing equipment in R&D laboratories, including cables and transceivers.
  • Serve as a liaison with the IT organization for Austin site IT infrastructure changes, including IT network connectivity, switches, cabling, IP addressing, access, and other IT-related requirements supporting R&D laboratories.
  • Work with the hardware, support, and internal teams to coordinate equipment hardware RMA (Return Material Authorization) activities, including troubleshooting, shipment, replacement, and return of defective equipment.
  • Coordinate with the primes from Facilities and HVAC support organizations to ensure laboratory environmental conditions, electrical power, and HVAC operations meet the needs of installed equipment. Follow up and coordinate with CBRE/WPS for timely resolutions of all power, AC issues or failures. Escort service technician when necessary.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot laboratory infrastructure and equipment issues and coordinate with the appropriate internal or external organizations for resolution.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and documentation of laboratory equipment, network connections, rack configurations, and other relevant lab infrastructure. Support periodical audits of the applicable equipment.
  • Assist with rack installation, equipment cabling, power requirements, equipment moves, and laboratory reconfiguration activities.
  • Help identify and resolve connectivity, hardware, power, HVAC, environmental, and basic operating-system issues affecting laboratory equipment.
  • Support R&D engineers during new equipment deployments, lab expansions, infrastructure upgrades, and equipment refresh activities (e.g. loaner equipment).
  • Coordinate lab support activities and communicate status, issues, risks, and expected resolution timelines to stakeholders.
  • Follow established safety, security, IT, and laboratory operational procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory reliability, organization, availability, and operational efficiency.
