The laboratory supervisor helps plan, organize and manage the laboratory department. Monitors the daily testing to assure quality results. Meets with physicians to organize patient testing in the best ways. Trains, supervises, and evaluates staff. Meets and discusses lab operation with employees, patients, and the public. The supervisor must be capable to perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures, using both manual and automated methods. The supervisor must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to interact with and provide service appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to provide the service needed as described in the department's guidelines and procedures. The lab supervisor performs chemical, microscopic and bacteriological testing of body fluids to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. He/she works closely with the Lab director d team members in an atmosphere of continuous quality improvement. He/she performs other duties as assigned by Laboratory manager or Director. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her section. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies.
