About The Position

Valence Surface Technologies is a full-service surface finishing company specializing in the commercial aerospace, defense, space and satellite industries. With strategically located sites across the United States, Valence provides a start to finish solution from NDT and chemical processing, to paint and sub-assembly. This role provides general oversight and support for the lab and technicians, overseeing adherence to test methods and laboratory procedures. The Lab Supervisor will manage inventory of chemicals, direct the preparation, storage, and use of controlled materials, and evaluate supplies needed for testing, directing the purchasing department on correct ordering. Accurate record-keeping and timely reporting of testing data are essential. This role involves troubleshooting instruments, equipment, and production processes, performing routine analytical and physical process control testing, and evaluating external test reports. The Lab Supervisor leads continuous improvement initiatives, participates in NADCAP and customer audits, and identifies opportunities for equipment and method upgrades to improve productivity. They will monitor, measure, and implement corrective actions, participate in new process implementation, and review customer specifications. Interaction with outside vendors, laboratories, and customers is expected for communicating requirements and resolving issues. The role also includes motivating, coaching, and developing employees within the department. Other duties as assigned by management.

This position requires access to knowledge and technical data regulated by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Valence Surface Technologies is required to verify that applicants meet ITAR requirements prior to employment for this role.

Responsibilities

Provide general oversight and support for the lab and technicians
Oversee adherence to test methods and laboratory procedures
Perform inventory management of all bulk and reagent chemicals
Direct the proper preparation, storage, and use of all controlled materials
Evaluates supplies and materials needed for testing and directs purchasing department on correct ordering
Keep accurate records related to testing activities and prepare summary reports of data in a timely manner
Troubleshoot instruments, equipment, and production processes
Perform routine analytical and physical process control testing including evaluation of external test reports
Leads continuous improvement initiatives in the laboratory department including internal auditing
Participates in audits pertaining to NADCAP Customer Surveillance Audits
Identifies or recommends new or upgrading of equipment and/or methods to improve productivity and capacity
Monitors, measures and implements corrective action to improve results within the department
Participate in new process implementation within the company including customer specification reviews
Interact with outside vendors, laboratories, and customers to communicate requirements and resolve issues
Motivates, coaches, and develops employees within the department
Other duties as assigned by management
