About The Position

This position is responsible for managing patient orders accurately and efficiently, performing specimen processing and handling according to established protocols, procedures, and standards of laboratory practice. The role requires exercising appropriate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and applying specimen processing safety standards and specimen management methods to laboratory practice. The Lab Specimen Processor will demonstrate proficiency in documenting patient specimen flow in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), exhibit good organizational skills and workflow management, and process specimens according to requirements, including preparation for dispatch to external labs. The role also involves demonstrating effective problem-solving skills in reconciling patient orders and discrepancies, maintaining a safe work environment, complying with standards for safe practice and standard precautions, and assisting with new employee orientation and training.

Requirements

• Ability to manage high volume, high stress, work situations
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

• Medical terminology preferred
• Computer data entry skills preferred
• Previous laboratory and specimen processing experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills along with the ability to perform to a high level of accuracy preferred

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in documenting patient specimen flow in Laboratory Information System (LIS).
