About The Position

This position is responsible for managing patient orders accurately and efficiently, performing specimen processing and handling according to established protocols, procedures, and standards of laboratory practice. The Lab Specimen Processor will exercise appropriate critical thinking and problem-solving skills and apply specimen processing safety standards and specimen management methods to laboratory practice. This role demonstrates proficiency in documenting patient specimen flow in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), good organizational skills, and workflow management. The processor prepares specimens for dispatch to external labs as needed, demonstrates effective problem-solving skills in reconciling patient orders and discrepancies, and maintains a safe work environment. This role also assists with new employee orientation and training and performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

Medical terminology preferred
Computer data entry skills preferred
Previous laboratory and specimen processing experience preferred
Strong organizational skills along with the ability to perform to a high level of accuracy preferred
Ability to manage high volume, high stress, work situations
BLS certification within 90 days of hire

Assists with new employee orientation and training.
Performs other duties as requested.
