About The Position

This role involves performing moderate-complexity laboratory testing in a fast-paced environment. The technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, performing routine lab procedures like media and sample preparation, and managing records, inventory, and supplies. The position requires maintaining clean and sanitary work areas and involves working autonomously, with potential for change as the team grows. The technician also serves as a lab resource, providing support to providers, teammates, and patients, and assisting with lab-related projects and other tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • One year experience in a medical setting as an MA or lab tech.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills required to competently perform the duties of this position.
  • BLS Certification
  • Ability to adapt to various work assignments.
  • Possess knowledge of approved medical abbreviations and correct spelling of the English language.
  • Be able to instruct others.
  • Possess good customer service skills and exceptional telephone etiquette.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous computer experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reporting.
  • Maintains records of patient results.
  • Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
  • Follows laboratory policy when test systems are not within established acceptable performance levels.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems and/or testing procedures deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Performs quality control and proficiency testing as required by office policy and regulations.
  • Adheres to office, COLA, OSHA and DHEC rules, regulations and policies.
  • Maintains lab supplies: Keeps track of supplies levels and notifies Lab Team Lead when needing to order. Routinely inspects supplies containing expiration dates to assure the valid dates of use and destroys those outdated supplies as required by state licenses, general practices and procedures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Attends meetings as required.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including tasks related to cross-trained areas or special projects.
  • Assists and supports other areas when needed.
