About The Position

Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an on-site position in our Engineering Test Laboratory (Lab) as a Laboratory Prototype Machinist III. Your primary function in this lead position is to develop, modify and repair prototype parts, jigs and fixtures. This role also includes the operation of manual lathes, drilling, milling machines and CNC machining centers for the development of Trane Commercial Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) products. The job requires problem solving, troubleshooting and collaboration with other Lab and Engineering team members to ensure timely completion of projects.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma in Machining or Associate’s Degree in a technical discipline (or Journeyman status) and at least 10-years work experience in machining or tool making is required.
  • Basic CNC programming, CAD and/or CAM experience required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude. Comfortable with hand tools, power tools, and tools common to the machining industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook) required
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing techniques
  • Demonstrates and occasionally mentors advanced understanding of schematics, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical reports, safety rules, operation, and maintenance instructions.
  • CNC Machine programming ability and documented experience
  • Ability to be licensed for material handling devices, and a wiliness to learn and grow technically.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to listen and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees in the organization.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • desire to learn basic programming in Visual Basic is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely and maintain a safe work area in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Operate manual and computer-controlled lathes, mills, precision machining centers, and other machining or fabrication equipment.
  • Lead installation, modification, and builds of developmental commercial HVAC equipment and components, following engineering, agency, and test requirements.
  • Design and build fixtures required for machining operations through understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings and instructions.
  • Machine a wide variety of parts from raw materials to close tolerances while using basic measuring/inspection instruments.
  • Continuously learning and cross training on new processes and equipment, with the ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
