About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Lab Operations Director to join its team in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The director leads technical and non-technical operations across the Chemistry, Hematology, Immunoassay, Microbiology, and Infectious Molecular testing departments. The role oversees department finances and resources, staff leadership and development, service quality, operational performance, regulatory audits, and the introduction of new methodologies and instrumentation. The director also supports business development and customer relationships, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, and reports relevant issues to the VP of Operations. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline and at least six years of clinical diagnostics laboratory experience in a supervisory or management role, including at least three years managing people leaders. Preferred qualifications include ASCP or AMT certification. Compensation is $150,000–$180,000 annually, with eligibility for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Benefits eligibility depends on regularly scheduled hours and work schedule.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
At least 6 years of clinical diagnostics laboratory experience in a supervisory or management role.
At least 3 years of experience managing people leaders.
Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations.
Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures.
Proven success training and developing technical and non-technical employees.
Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
Experience working autonomously with a high degree of accountability.
Strong written and verbal presentation and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

ASCP or AMT certification.
Prior experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

Direct technical and non-technical operational activities across the Chemistry, Hematology, Immunoassay, Microbiology, and Infectious Molecular testing departments.
Oversee department finances, including labor, reagent, and capital expenses.
Acquire additional capital resources needed to maintain service levels.
Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory supervisors and maintain accountability for all staff within the departments.
Ensure service levels meet customer and patient needs, including thresholds for key performance indicators.
Oversee implementation of new methodologies, instrumentation, and quality control.
Support business development, participate in external customer relationships, and collaborate with internal customers to meet business objectives.
Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external customers.
Collaborate with the medical director, technical director, QA, laboratory managers, discipline directors, other laboratory directors, and corporate operations.
Oversee laboratory audits and ensure corrective, preventive, and effectiveness actions are implemented for findings and deficiencies.
Oversee training, talent development, and employee engagement initiatives, and ensure policies and procedures are followed.
Keep the VP of Operations apprised of relevant issues.
