About The Position

This role is responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory, encompassing both administrative duties and direct involvement in the lab's research endeavors. The Lab Manager coordinates and oversees the work of research personnel, implements research schedules, and ensures the quality of lab procedures. They are expected to stay current with lab technologies, participate in improving both administrative and scientific operations, and recommend and implement necessary changes. The position also involves supervising, orienting, and training staff, ensuring compliance with lab safety guidelines, and maintaining accurate record keeping. Additionally, the Lab Manager may be responsible for overseeing lab equipment needs, inventory, and the ordering of common lab supplies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Related Field
  • 3-5 years related work experience
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications
  • Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives
  • Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents
  • Ability to follow precedents and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers
  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations
  • Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Vaccination against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment
