The Lab Intern - Summer 2027 (Nashville, TN) role applies academic knowledge to real‑world technical challenges by supporting consulting teams on a variety of projects within an assigned technical discipline. This role works alongside experienced technical professionals to assist with research, analysis, documentation, and project support activities that contribute to the successful delivery of client and internal initiatives. The Technical Services intern gains exposure to technical consulting work, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the project lifecycle while supporting tasks such as data analysis, technical evaluations, research, and preparation of technical materials. This role provides hands‑on learning opportunities in a professional consulting environment. This role works under close supervision with regular guidance from more experienced colleagues or supervisors.

Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Software), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science Data Science) or a related field is required.
Continued enrollment in accredited under or graduate degree program in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Software), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science Data Science) or a related field post internship is required.
GPA equal to or higher than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent is required.

Nice To Haves

Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
Coursework or academic exposure in environmental chemistry, laboratory sciences, water/wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, analytical chemistry, or related technical disciplines.
Demonstrated academic interest in environmental consulting, laboratory operations, or treatment process evaluation.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and maintain accurate records.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Basic understanding of laboratory health and safety practices and standard operating procedures.
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately collect, organize, and analyze technical data.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Willingness to learn laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and technical reporting procedures.

Previous academic, volunteer, research, or internship experience in a laboratory setting.
Experience collecting, entering, organizing, or analyzing technical or scientific data.
Familiarity with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, calibration, or maintenance activities.
Experience working with environmental, chemical, biological, or engineering-related laboratory procedures.
Exposure to developing technical reports, data summaries, or supporting project documentation.
Experience following laboratory safety protocols, handling chemicals, or using personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participation in academic research projects, student organizations, or fieldwork related to environmental, scientific, or engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with cross‑functional and multidisciplinary teams to support project planning and execution.
Support day-to-day activities within assigned projects and/or functional area.
Participate in internal and external meetings by taking notes, tracking action items, and supporting follow‑up activities.
Perform technical or support tasks within assigned functional area and technical specialty in support of project and team needs.
Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
Perform a variety of technical and operational tasks assigned to support evolving business and team needs.
Attend and complete Intern Workshops and Intern Summer Series Sessions.
Complete intern capstone project assignment.
Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
