About The Position
The Lab Instrument Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and functionality of laboratory instruments used across various scientific and medical research settings. This position is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of complex laboratory equipment to support uninterrupted laboratory operations. The technician collaborates closely with laboratory/pharmacy staff to troubleshoot instrument issues and optimize performance. By maintaining detailed records and adhering to safety and quality standards, the technician helps uphold the integrity of experimental data and compliance with regulatory requirements. Ultimately, this role ensures that laboratory instruments operate at peak efficiency, enabling high-quality research outcomes and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Associate degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation Technology, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience working with laboratory instruments, including installation, calibration, and repair.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems relevant to laboratory equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory standards applicable to laboratory environments.
- Technical skills to diagnose and repair complex laboratory equipment.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting instrument failures.
- Communication skills for collaboration with laboratory staff.
- Organizational skills for maintaining detailed maintenance records and managing parts inventory.
Nice To Haves
- Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or equivalent.
- Experience with instruments such as Colanar filling machines, LabelOn machines, Autoclave machines, and filter machines.
- Knowledge of advanced diagnostic tools and software used for instrument troubleshooting.
- Experience working in clinical, pharmaceutical, or research laboratory settings.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on a wide range of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions or breakdowns in laboratory equipment promptly to minimize downtime.
- Calibrate instruments according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards to guarantee accurate measurements.
- Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and calibration results to support quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to understand instrument requirements and provide technical support and training as needed.
- Order and manage inventory of spare parts and consumables required for instrument upkeep.
- Stay current with technological advancements and manufacturer updates to recommend equipment upgrades or improvements.
