About The Position

We are seeking a dependable, professional, and patient-focused Laboratory Services / Phlebotomy Specialist in Holly Springs, North Carolina. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, coordinating laboratory services, registering patients and specimens, and performing blood and specimen collections in accordance with established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, a commitment to patient care, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with at least two (2) years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Graduation from a phlebotomy program

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow established procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients, physicians, nurses, coworkers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly, take and relay messages, transfer calls, and communicate laboratory information accurately and professionally.
  • Notify appropriate medical staff when specimen collection or laboratory services are delayed or cancelled.
  • Perform specimen collections, including venipuncture, fingersticks, urine collections, and cultures, following established procedures.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding appropriate specimen collection.
  • Verify patient identity, specimen requirements, and collection procedures prior to obtaining specimens.
  • Collect blood and urine specimens, including specimens requiring chain-of-custody documentation, while ensuring all required forms are accurate and complete.
  • Register patients, enter demographic information, and order laboratory tests accurately within applicable hospital, laboratory, and electronic medical record systems.
  • Maintain proficiency with laboratory information systems, hospital ADT systems, EMR systems, and other required computer applications.
  • Retrieve laboratory results and provide information to authorized physicians, patients, and healthcare staff as appropriate.
  • Receive, register, sort, and process outreach specimens and courier deliveries according to established procedures.
  • Properly label, document, handle, and store specimens to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment throughout the shift.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and replace damaged or soiled PPE as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory and notify appropriate staff of supply or inventory concerns.
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Properly store and dispose of specimens, reagents, and supplies according to established requirements.
  • Participate in the training and education of new and existing employees as requested.
  • Review and comply with current laboratory procedures, policies, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Complete required training, continuing education, safety training, and annual policy and job-description acknowledgements within established deadlines.
  • Assist with the development, revision, and validation of standard operating procedures as requested.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
