About The Position

Under the general supervision, the Welding Lab Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the welding lab at Southeast New Mexico College. This includes supporting welding instructors and students, ensuring the safety and functionality of lab equipment, and maintaining compliance with industry and college safety standards. The Lab Coordinator assists in purchasing, inventory control, and the maintenance of all welding lab materials and tools.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques, procedures, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with accreditation, certification, and regulatory requirements relevant to welding labs.
  • Ability to safely use, maintain, and demonstrate a variety of welding equipment and tools.
  • Skill in managing supplies, materials, and inventory within a lab environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety protocols, including OSHA and MSDS guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train student workers effectively.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment.
  • Performing the essential functions of this position requires the use of a computer throughout most of the workday, the ability to navigate a typical office environment, significant amounts of interpersonal interaction including oral and written communication, and the ability to keep track of multiple tasks, projects, deadlines, information sources and business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the welding lab.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing lab safety procedures and quality standards aligned with industry and institutional policies.
  • Provide technical assistance to instructors and students using lab equipment and materials.
  • Manage inventory of consumables, tools, and safety supplies; ensure timely ordering and restocking.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of welding equipment to ensure safe and accurate operation.
  • Support instructional activities, including lab setup and teardown for courses and student projects.
  • Train and supervise student lab assistants, including assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to resolve technical and operational challenges within the lab.
  • Maintain proper documentation for safety inspections, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and compliance reporting.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
