About The Position

Performs all functions necessary to register outpatients and outreach patients. Performs outpatient and outreach patient test order entry. Compiles and audits for accuracy registration information and forwards to patient accounts and medical records. Obtain specimens from patients for laboratory procedures. Instructs patients and other personnel on the proper procedure for specimen collection, labels, storage documentation, billing, and transport requirements. Processes specimens for analysis, storage and reference lab testing. Performs admission interview process at the Laboratory Outreach Service Centers or uses information provided by the outreach clients at the time of specimen collection or pickup. Obtains patient demographic, insurance and other pertinent information. Ensures that all Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to the registration process. Responds to inquiries regarding patients. Obtains blood specimens in an inpatient and outpatient setting following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements. Obtains specimens in an inpatient and outpatient setting requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements. Performs Diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures. Urine collection and processing. Specimen collections other than blood or urine. Labels, receives, and distributes specimens in the laboratory. Assists in the laboratory area. Acts as a resource for Laboratory information. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare requirements. Collect co-pays and other payments from patients.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent GED.
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skill in use of computers including word processing.
  • Requires three months customer service experience.
  • Requires experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Phlebotomy experience is 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a Clinical Phlebotomy certificate, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood.
  • The Phlebotomy Certificate must include a minimum of 32 hours of a clinical rotation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
  • Outreach employees must have a Valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license with less than 3 points on his/her record if being hired into department # 40110.
  • MVR must meet NRHS MVR policy criteria or Defensive Driving must be taken.

  • Prefer 1 year of experience in a medical setting.
