About The Position

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. Using the latest technologies, our pathologists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases. The laboratory derives choroid plexus epithelial cells (CPECS) from various lines of human stem cells to assess the possible contribution of CPECs to the risk of genetically influenced diseases. Under supervision, the incumbent will perform routine experimental procedures and lab chores, including establishing and maintaining cultures of human iPSCs and ESCs, deriving CPECs in multi-well chamber slides, performing experimental treatments of derived CPECs, phenotypic analyses of cultured cells involving immunostaining, microscopy, and digital image analysis, general lab support (making stock solutions, ordering, and maintaining lab databases), and maintenance of written records of these tasks.

Requirements

  • Human stem cell culture experience
  • Immunocytochemistry experience
  • Confocal fluorescence microscopy experience
  • Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions
  • Ability to record results and observations and maintain an organized, legible lab notebook
  • Skill to pipet accurately
  • Ability to use Macintosh or PC computers
  • Knowledge and operation of routine lab equipment (power supplies, incubators, hoods, etc)
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of Biology, Molecular Biology, or Chemistry
  • At least six months experience in human stem cell culture, derivation, and culture of derived cells, as well as analysis by immunostaining and microscopy.

Nice To Haves
