About The Position

The Laboratory Associate is responsible for following all standard operating procedures of the laboratory and adhering to all quality regulations. Additionally, the Laboratory Associate may be assigned duties by the Lab Manager, Lab Supervisor, and other Clinical Laboratory Operations Leadership for the advancement or maintenance of the laboratory. Additionally, the Laboratory Associate is responsible for laboratory functions that do not directly involve the manipulation of patient samples or products generated from patient samples.

Requirements

  • Bachelors (B.S.)
  • Technical knowledge of laboratory testing and terminology is desirable.
  • Capable of excelling within a team environment.
  • Capable of accomplishing workload and additional projects daily.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, attention to detail, ability to cross reference information, ability to prioritize work, telephone skills, computer skills, working knowledge of standard office equipment (computers, printers fax machines, phone systems, office software and internet).
  • Flexibility regarding job assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and Ambry requisitions, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively one-to-one, in group settings, with clients, vendors and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • 0-2 years clinical laboratory experience, preferably molecular

Responsibilities

  • Follow all procedures and protocols pertaining to patient sample processing, pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing and general laboratory system that do not directly involve the manipulation of patient samples or products generated from patient samples.
  • Adhere to all Quality regulations (CAP, CLIA & New York State) and ensure all training and competency forms are complete.
  • Perform biological specimen patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens.
  • Transcription of results that have been previously recorded automatically by a testing instrument.
  • Maintain laboratory safety by ensuring work area is safe and clean prior to work and after work and noting hazardous problems for prompt and proper repair.
  • Assist in pulling and filing primers, reagents and samples for trainees and licensed techs without manipulating the samples or compromising their integrity.
  • Assisting with any clerical duties that may be assigned by Lab Management.
