About The Position

The Lab Associate is responsible for managing sampling and testing activities for cannabis products at our Delta, BC facility. This role supports sample preparation and shipments, report and data management, and laboratory investigations, while partnering closely with Quality Assurance, Planning, and Sales to support the retail, wholesale, and international arms of the business. The Lab Associate plays an important role in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), supporting the timely release of product and delivery of exceptional customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or BSc in a Life Sciences-related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with documentation and administrative work
  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Strong multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions safely and accurately.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Curious, continuous learner with the ability to design, implement, and execute tasks independently.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and pass a RCMP Criminal Record Check and maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cannabis flower and trim, milled products, pre-rolls, cannabis 2.0 products (e.g., extracts, gummies, oils, tinctures, distillates), and R&D study samples according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) using common laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare samples for shipment, retention, and customer purchase orders, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Facilitate sample transactions in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, including sample entries, adjustments, and repacks.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure samples are processed and results are reported in a timely manner.
  • Maintain Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation by completing batch sampling and requisition forms, printing labels, and ensuring samples match associated paperwork.
  • Save and organize reports, coordinate with external laboratories, and maintain file integrity with strong attention to detail.
  • Follow up with external laboratories to obtain missing reports and results.
  • Update logbooks, forms, and Excel worksheets to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
  • Draft and revise key documentation such as SOPs and Change Control submissions to align with current processes and standards.
  • Respond to customer requests related to reports, documentation, and Certificate of Analysis (COA) package inquiries.
  • Identify Out of Trend (OOT) and Out of Specification (OOS) results and partner with the Quality Assurance team to support investigations.
  • Document and complete Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIRs), Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs), and deviations to support on-time batch release.
  • Design and perform sampling-related R&D studies/trials; collect, analyze, and compile data to support problem-solving in processing and cultivation.
  • Work safely in a laboratory environment in accordance with best practices and established procedures.
  • Other duties may arise since we work together to support all business activities – seed to sale.
