About The Position

The Lab Associate II supports patient care through specimen collection, patient registration, and laboratory support duties. The role performs specimen collection, specimen handling, and clerical work, with experience in phlebotomy and proficiency in additional tasks such as central processing, in-office phlebotomy, or inventory management. Work may take place in an outpatient lab, physician office, or off-campus patient service center. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Less than 2 years of experience.
• No supervisor experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's degree.
• 2–5 years of experience.
• Less than 2 years of supervisor experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and order tests in the appropriate system.
• Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, positive patient interaction, proper collection, and specimen integrity practices.
• Work in an outpatient lab, physician office, or off-campus patient service center as needed.
• Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and handle all received specimens proficiently.
• Coordinate multiple tasks accurately, including STAT orders and workload fluctuations, and prioritize work to meet scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
• Perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
