About The Position

Parkland Health Center Laboratory is seeking a Lab Associate I to provide patient care and laboratory support. The role performs blood and non-blood specimen collection, specimen handling and routine processing, and clerical duties associated with specimen collection. It involves phlebotomy and patient interaction in a fast-paced laboratory environment, supporting accurate specimen processing and timely workflow.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong patient care and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple tasks accurately.

Nice To Haves

• 0–1 year of phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Verify patient identity and interact positively with patients during specimen collection.
• Collect specimens properly and maintain specimen integrity.
• Handle and routinely process specimens, including non-blood specimens.
• Perform clerical duties associated with specimen collection.
• Coordinate multiple tasks accurately, including STAT orders and changes in workload.
• Prioritize work to meet scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
• Maintain quality assurance standards and patient safety practices.
• Support laboratory operations and workflow.
• Interact with laboratory, clinical, and other ancillary departments.
• Provide customer service to patients and healthcare team members.
