About The Position

The Lab Associate I performs blood and non-blood specimen collection, specimen handling and routine processing, and clerical duties associated with specimen collection. The role supports laboratory operations at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, Illinois, including patient specimen collection and phlebotomy-related duties. It requires accurate documentation and adherence to quality and safety standards, as well as positive patient identification and interaction. The associate coordinates concurrent tasks, including STAT orders and changing workloads, and prioritizes work to meet scheduled hours and established turnaround times. The position interacts with laboratory, clinical, and other ancillary departments and provides service to patients and healthcare team members. This is a PRN, as-needed role based on department staffing needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Phlebotomy training or course completion.
• No prior experience is required.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Preferred experience: less than 2 years.
• Preferred supervisor experience: less than 2 years.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Phlebotomy certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood and non-blood specimen collection, specimen handling, and routine processing.
• Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and positive patient interaction while ensuring proper collection and specimen integrity.
• Coordinate simultaneous tasks accurately, including STAT orders and workload fluctuations, and prioritize work to meet turnaround times.
• Interact with laboratory, clinical, and other ancillary departments.
• Perform clerical duties associated with specimen collection.
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow quality and safety standards.
• Provide service to patients and healthcare team members.
